Seven Types of Injuries You Might Suffer in a Car Accident

Car accidents can come out of nowhere, and result in some potentially life-threatening injuries. However, even when they are not fatal, they can still leave you with medical issues that can linger for months or years afterwards. Here are seven injuries you may experience if you get into a car accident:

  • Contusions or lacerations
      • These are fancy terms for bruises and cuts, but just because they sound like simple injuries does not mean they are not serious issues. Heavy bruising can be a sign of serious internal injuries, while especially deep cuts can require surgery to repair.
  • Fractured bones
      • Broken bones are another common occurrence whenever someone gets into a car accident. These range from relatively small “microfractures” that may not be detectable without an X-ray, to major compound fractures that can take months to heal.
  • Dislocations
      • A dislocation is when a joint pops out of place, and it is about as painful as it sounds. Sadly, they are not uncommon when it comes to a car accident, and once you have one dislocation, the odds of having another increase in the future.
  • Muscle strain or tearing
      • Your muscles can also be damaged during a car accident, resulting in sprains, strains, or even tears to the muscle tissue. Even relatively minor muscle strain can take weeks to recover from, while tears may take surgical intervention and months of recovery.
  • Nerve damage
      • If you suffer a severe injury during a car accident, there is a chance it can damage some of your nerves. This can cause a potentially permanent reduction in your ability to feel with certain parts of your body, as well as other long-term issues.
  • Neck and spine injuries
      • When people get into car accidents, it is reasonably likely they will injure their necks or spines, often due to the phenomenon known as “whiplash.” Not only can this be painful, it can limit mobility or even result in paralysis in one or more limbs.
  • TBIs
    • Traumatic brain injuries, or TBIs, are potentially life-threatening and can have severe long-term effects, but surprisingly can go undiagnosed for weeks or months. Diagnosing these sorts of “invisible injuries” is part of the reason that prompt medical attention is so important after a car accident.

Better call Solotoff. He will get the job done. You’ll be happy. Darryn and his staff are exceptional. Darryn was able to resolve my case for far more than the insurance company originally offered. He and his staff are kind and compassionate but also fierce advocates when they need to be.
Darryn Solotoff is an exceptional attorney. I highly recommend his services.
Darryn was super helpful and held our first time home buying hands through the whole process. We had many questions, and he was responsive and kind at all times.I recommended him to a friend shortly after who did not listen. That friend has a rough time while I had to say I told you so. This only made me appreciate Darryn even more, as I was happy I didn't have to experience issues of someone not answering emails, and not fighting for my interests. Will continue using these guys forever. Thanks.
